On November 6th, International Bodyboarding Day, several tributes to Tom Morey (the creator of this sport and its first boards, the Morey Boogie) took place all over the world.

The Ericeira World Surfing Reserve (EWSR) was no exception and, at Praia dos Pescadores, there was also a tribute in memory of the North American engineer, musician and surfer, who could not resist the complications of a delicate surgical intervention, passing away at 86 years of age on October 14, 2021 – precisely the date on which the EWRS celebrated its 10th anniversary.

To celebrate this inspiring life, Tom Morey’s family took the initiative to hold a global paddle out. Communities around the world, including Ericeira, were brought together, with the certainty that the legacy of “Mr. Bodyboarding” will be remembered forever.
