In December 2020, Pope Francis granted the Royal and Venerable Confraternity of the Most Blessed Sacrament of Mafra the honor of the Pontifical Coronation of the Image of Our Lady of Soledade, a ceremony bestowed on Portugal on only three occasions – the first to Our Lady of Sameiro, in 1904, and the second to Our Lady of Fátima, in 1946.

The respective event was scheduled for this year, just in time for the commemoration of the 375th anniversary of the elevation of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Patroness of Portugal, however it had to be postponed to 2023.
