Surfers Cove officially presented the “Surf Village” in Óbidos earlier this month. This will be the first Surf Park in the European Union featuring next-generation Wavegarden technology.

This pioneering tourism and sports project in Portugal and Europe represents a total investment of over 25 million euros, combining private capital with EU funds.

it was conceived as an inclusive space that complements the ocean and ensures consistent waves for all surfing levels

Its relevance is further reinforced by a strategic partnership with Despomar, a company founded in 1987 and based in Ericeira, a market leader in board sports and owner of the Ericeira Surf & Skate chain, as well as Billabong and 58 Surf stores. With 34 locations open to the public, Despomar brings strength and prestige to this innovative project.

The first of the Surf Village bungalows has already been completed, with a total of 56 accommodation units planned.

Despomar is one of the partners of this innovative surf village, which includes a wave pool.

The Surf Village will feature Wavegarden’s state-of-the-art technology, allowing the creation of up to 1.000 waves per hour and over 25 wave types, tailored to all skill levels — from beginners to professionals

It will be one of the first commercial facilities in the world to integrate Side Shore designs, enhancing performance and aesthetics while delivering an experience that mirrors the ocean. The system combines maximum energy efficiency with the ability to create high-performance waves, revolutionizing surfing outside the ocean.

the resort will accommodate up to 144 guests across 56 units

The Surf Village includes a four-star tourist complex with a maximum capacity of 144 beds across 56 accommodation units. The resort will also feature a restaurant, a 58 Surf shop, skate parks, padel and beach tennis courts, a gym, a surf school, landscaped green areas, and corporate event spaces — creating a true leisure and wellness destination for families, tourists, and athletes.

Located on a five-hectare site between Ericeira and Nazaré, Surfers Cove will reinforce the West Region’s identity as a premier surf destination, taking advantage of its proximity to iconic beaches such as Supertubos and Baleal. The project is expected to create around 50 direct jobs and achieve an annual turnover of 10 million euros once fully operational.
