Photography: Cátia Alpedrinha Caetano / Retratos em Família
The initial phase of the photographic exhibition “Retratos em Familia” (in english, Family Portraits) by Cátia Alpedrinha Caetano was inaugurated earlier this month in the center of Ericeira.
In this exhibition, which takes place at Rua Dr. Eduardo Burnay, the public is able to enjoy large-format photographs depicting many families from Ericeira linked to surfing and fishing activities, two growing stands that help define the essence of this village. If names such as Miguel Katzenstein (founder of Semente Surfboards), Alexandre Grilo (Lapoint Surf Camps), Amilcar ‘Mica’ Lourenço (Mica Surfboards) or the sisters Rita and Joana Rocha give life to the wave riders, the fishing arts is represented by figures such as Mestre Francisco Eurico Franco Alberto, also known as “Xico Porras”, or Maria Fernanda Abrantes, the popular ‘Nana da Repolha’ who owns one of the most popular fish and seafood stalls in the marketplace.
The first part of the exhibition, which has the institutional support of Municipality of Mafra, started on April 8. The complementary phase (in which will be added new work pieces to it) will begin on July 22 and should last until the end of September.
“Retratos em Família” is a project of a family (Cátia, Rui, Rodrigo and Nair) that portrays other families, in the most diverse and contemporary dimension of the concept – including conventional and unconventional groups, heterosexual or homosexual – always intending to perpetuate the changes in a portrait, alongside with the similarities and transformations: what it was, what it is and what it continues to be.
