In a recent publication, nCultura website published a list of the 10 most beautiful fishing villages in Portugal and Ericeira comes up in the fifth position of this ranking.
In this article, several characteristic aspects of a fishing village or town are mentioned, including the important role that fishermen continue to play, even today, being fishing a valuable activity in our country, even though it is not a dominant profession or much desired by most young people.

What all these towns and villages have in common is the ancestral tradition of fishing as a means of livelihood and economic activity that still endures, the beautiful seascapes and the fantastic beaches that invite locals and tourists alike, every year, to experience the different opportunities of leisure that these localities offer. And Ericeira is no exception, thanks to its natural beauty, nightlife and the community that help make Ericeira an inviting place.
We can read in the piece that “this tourist village is located 35 km northwest of the center of Lisbon. Ericeira is a parish that integrates the municipality of Mafra. Currently, it is very famous for surfing. Many seek Ericeira due to the local waves”.
Also on this list are Santa Luzia in Tavira, Murtosa, Vila Nova de Milfontes, Sesimbra, Nazaré, Costa Nova in Ílhavo, Afurada in Vila Nova de Gaia, Apúlia in Esposende and Vila Praia de Âncora.
