Recently, Vortex Mag (a digital magazine that aims to make known not only travel suggestions in Portugal and abroad, but also a little bit of culture and information, writing about history, curiosities, society and gastronomy) published an article where Ericeira stands out, in 9th place on the ranking of the most beautiful Portuguese villages.
Based on some objective criteria such as existing historic heritage, number and size of green spaces, degree of conservation of historic centres and number of tourists visiting the place, the article presents a list of those that are, within these assessment standards, some of the most beautiful villages in Portugal.
there is a lot to discover in this beautiful land of fishermen
Although it is a small country, Portugal has a huge diversity, ranging from fishing villages by the sea, whitewashed villages in the Alentejo plains or medieval villages with granite streets and houses: Monsaraz, Óbidos, Marvão, Dornes, Castelo de Vide , Ponte de Lima, Ponte da Barca, Almeida, Ferragudo, Mértola and Estoi were the featured villages, on the list, next to Ericeira.
About 30 kilometers from Lisbon, in the municipality of Mafra, this village by the sea is, since 2011, the only World Surfing Reserve in Europe and the second in the world. Thousands of visitors seek Ericeira every year, not only for the practice of water sports, since there is much more to discover (as Vortex Mag writes) in this beautiful land of fishermen, “among traditions, heritage, history and gastronomy”.
