Getting to the “Espiga” feast, by motorcycle, camper van or on foot; setting up a camp; going on a bender and kindling the coal for the barbecue – these are the initial steps of a ritual held year after year on the eve of Ascension Day, a holiday in the municipality of Mafra.
Either at Foz do Lizandro beach or elsewhere, in a camping site or in any pinewood of Ericeira, what matters is to gather family or friends and have a good time. Which can last overnight or until next afternoon, depending on energy levels.
In this gallery of pictures captured by four photographers, we presented several moments and stages of “Espiga” in 2016, which began blessed by the weather and finished under pouring rain.
