The Mafra City Council resorted to social media, during the month of February, to inform the community that the images captured in the Bonelli’s eagle nest, located at Tapada de Mafra, are already being live streamed, as part of the project LIFE LxAquila, of which the Municipality of Mafra is part.

This is an initiative by SPEA (Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds) that aims to bring together local communities, authorities and experts to protect Bonelli’s eagles, which live close to people, in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

Recently, one of the eggs of Bonelli’s eagles that nest in the Tapada Nacional de Mafra hatched.

LIFE LxAquila is a project financed by the LIFE program of the European Union and its partners are the following entities: Alenquer City Council, Loures City Council, Mafra City Council, Sintra City Council, Torres Vedras City Council, Vila Franca de Xira City Council, Companhia das Lezírias, E-redes, National Republican Guard (GNR), Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests, Parks of Sintra – Monte da Lua, Sociedad Española de Ornitologia (SEO/BirdLife) and Tapada Nacional de Mafra.

You can find out more about LIFE LxAquila on the project’s website, where the live broadcast is available.
