Margarida and Joana Dray are first cousins and are also connected by entrepreneurial ties: they are the promoters of Pop Up Bazaar, scheduled to take place at Quinta dos Leitões on December 6 and 7. The event was created with the intention of reinventing the market concept (a Christmas market, in this case) in the Ericeira region. A week and a half before the third edition, we publish the interview conducted with the two faces behind this event.
This will be the 3rd edition of Pop Up Bazaar. How has the event evolved?
Pop Up Bazaar began with the goal of creating a trendy and appealing concept in Ericeira and, over the course of the first two editions, it has established itself as the ideal market for enjoying a relaxed and lively weekend. With each edition, interest has increased among brands, independent creators, and visitors, showing that the concept meets a real need within the community: having a beautiful and pleasant space for shopping, socializing, and finding inspiration.
Are there any new features or surprises this year?
Yes. For the 3rd edition, we are expanding the programme with new themed workshops for children and adults, enhancing the experiential component that complements the exhibitor area.
What stands out about Quinta dos Leitões?
Quinta dos Leitões offers two characteristics that make the event special:
• The outdoor space – surrounded by nature, with a peaceful and pleasant setting that creates a welcoming atmosphere, ideal both for relaxing in the lounge area and for a family stroll – pet friendly. It also includes some food and beverage spots.
• The indoor space – spacious, rustic, and well-organised, protected from weather conditions, ensuring comfort for exhibitors and visitors in a place that preserves the heritage of the estate.
This combination allows the market to be organised in a balanced way, distributing brands and activities across distinct, well-defined areas.
Can you give us a sneak peek of this year’s entertainment?
The entertainment will include moments designed for all ages, maintaining the family-friendly character of Pop Up Bazaar. In addition to music (both ambient and live) and social areas, there will be spaces dedicated to creative workshops, which are one of the major new features of this edition. The aim is for each visitor not only to shop but to experience the market as a whole, enjoying our gastronomy along the way.
How would you describe the spirit of Pop Up Bazaar?
The spirit of Pop Up Bazaar is welcoming, creative, and community-driven. It is a market that values originality, aesthetics, and local talent, but also the well-being and experience of each visitor. It brings together independent brands, artisans, food vendors, families, and Ericeira lovers in a relaxed and beautiful setting, always with the mission of offering a special moment, especially during the Christmas season.
