“I’m gonna learn to surf or break my neck.<\/em>” In such a simple sentence you find the determination of the undercover cop Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves) at the classic action and surfing film “Point Break<\/a>“. That’s the motto for one of the most spectacular internet short-films ever recorded in Ericeira.<\/p>\n

The story of “If in doubt, paddle out” is centered in Thomas (Thomas Persson),\u00a0a foreigner in whom the interest for surfing arises after watching the famous movie by Kathryn Bigelow<\/a>.\u00a0Carrying a orange surfboard and a hawaiian shirt, Thomas arrives in Portugal having Ericeira as the destination. There, he joins a fellow group of foreigners at any hostel or surf camp and quickly tries to adapt to the lifestyle and vibe of other travelers.<\/p>\n

Already with the ‘surfer looks’, he wears long blonde hair and makes use of Bodhi’s (Patrick Swayze), “Point Break”‘s rebel soul surfer, memorable and inspiring sentences to pass himself as a true seaman, and also to conquer some girls. “You’re surfin’, man<\/em>“, he mentions to himself in front of a mirror.<\/p>\n

What follows is an amusing representation of “Point Break”, by thorough and accurate lines taken from the movie and adapted to the goofy foreigner, whose mentor is the native represented by Gon\u00e7alo Os\u00f3rio.<\/p>\n

However, “If in doubt, paddle out” isn’t just a reinterpretation of “Point Break”‘s script: it’s also sharp criticism of the culture of a surf tourist who, during his holidays and after just some lessons, already feels as an heartfelt surfer.<\/p>\n

Can this Andrew Blackman production ever be seen in the big screen, possibly on Portuguese Surf Film Festival’s 3rd edition<\/a>?<\/p>\n
