{"id":65644,"date":"2026-06-18T00:00:46","date_gmt":"2026-06-17T23:00:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ericeiramag.pt\/?p=65644\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T14:53:49","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T13:53:49","slug":"team-competition-for-portugals-best-surf-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ericeiramag.pt\/en\/team-competition-for-portugals-best-surf-spot\/","title":{"rendered":"Team Competition for Portugal\u2019s best surf spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photography: <\/strong>Pedro Broeiro ESC<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The biggest team surfing championship is coming to Praia de Ribeira d\u2019Ilhas, in Ericeira on June 20th and 21st. &#8220;Sumol Local Legends&#8221; is presented by Joaquim Chaves, the 2023 Portuguese champion, and is intended to celebrate surf culture.<\/p>\n<p>The forty athletes will compete in eight teams of five surfers in the categories Open Pro, Open Amateur, Open Women, Junior, and Master. Inspired by the healthy rivalry between the country\u2019s different surf spots, each team will represent a region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>teams will battle for the title of Portugal\u2019s best surf spot and 6.000 euros<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Among the participants are some of the biggest names in Portuguese surfing, including last year\u2019s winner, Guilherme Ribeiro, for Costa da Caparica, as well as Tiago Pires for Ericeira, Frederico Morais (Cascais), and Nic Von Rupp &#8211; Praia Grande.
