Blue Ocean Sustainable Solutions, or blueOASIS<\/a>, is an engineering consulting firm exclusively engaged in projects that promote the development of offshore renewable energy structures, ocean cleanup solutions (pollution and noise), aquaculture, decarbonization of the maritime and naval industry, and smart monitoring solutions (Digital Twins); in other words, initiatives that foster the sustainability of the Oceans and the Planet.<\/p>\n

To this end, they employ modern Industry 4.0 methods, specifically DataScience, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Methods, and High-Performance Computing (HPC). blueOASIS is the Portuguese private company with the highest computing power (not in the Cloud; actual hardware in HPC centers!), with HPC clusters in Portugal, the UK, the Netherland and Iceland, totaling over 50,000 cores, which equates to almost 450 million core-hours per year.<\/p>\n

blueOASIS began in October 2021, having since then its headquarters in Ericeira (yes, a deep tech company that is neither in Lisbon nor Porto!). In February 2022, it was incubated at the Ericeira Business Factory<\/a> (EBF), at a time when the team consisted of only four employees.<\/p>\n

The EBF has been and will always be the cradle, the parental home of blueOASIS. There, this start-up was well-received, helped to grow, and connected with the right people, in the right places, at the right time by the EBF team and the Mafra Municipal Council.<\/p>\n

After two years navigating the valley of death, it has secured a portfolio of commercial projects with global clients, a PRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan) project of the Mobilizing Agenda, and three HorizonEurope projects (the Champions League of global R&D projects). It also forged a spinoff in the area of Underwater Acoustics, HydroTWIN<\/a>, for which it attracted both Portuguese and foreign investment.<\/p>\n

blueOASIS now has a presence in Ericeira, Faial (Azores), and Utrecht \u2013 Netherlands.<\/p>\n

Noteworthy, in the context of surfing, are the wave models for all the beaches of the Ericeira World Surfing Reserve, developed by blueOASIS together with NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology), which accurately characterize the type of waves and their “surfability” \u2013 this project is sponsored by the EEA-Grants.<\/p>\n

Thus, after the Ericeira team grew to 15 internal employees, 2 active external assistants, plus 3-4 Master’s students, and 2 PhD students<\/a>, it was the right time for blueOASIS to leave the parental home (EBF) and live independently.<\/p>\n

Since June 1, 2024, blueOASIS has moved to an iconic street in Ericeira: Rua do Norte, nr 16. The office is not yet 100% functional, but once the moving process is complete, the company will certainly show the local community where it is and what it does, organizing an opening party for those who have helped on this journey.<\/p>\n
