Recently, the website E-konomista (an online publisher, especially oriented to help readers in managing practical everyday life and making decisions) has compiled a list of the best places to live near the capital\u2026 and Mafra appears in fifth place.<\/p>\n

Due to the increasing cost of living in Lisbon, namely in terms of house prices, the Portuguese are increasingly looking for sustainable solutions for their wallets, in order to be able to stay close to their jobs and family members.<\/p>\n

\n<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Although there is a great offer in the bordering municipalities or the ones closer to Lisbon, such as Almada, Sintra, Oeiras, Odivelas, Cascais, Vila Franca de Xira or Amadora, the costs associated with these places always tend to rise. And it is why E-konomista has put together a list of five other Portuguese locations that are also close to the capital and that, from an economic point of view, can make a big difference in people’s wallet.<\/p>\n

Mafra is included in this selection for its leisure and history options, due to the National Palace and its association with the emblematic work of Jos\u00e9 Saramago, \u201cO Memorial do Convento\u201d (en: Baltasar and Blimunda), as well as the short distance between the town and the capital (about 20 minutes by car) and the excellent opportunities in terms of real estate \u2013 both in terms of prices and the different available typologies.<\/p>\n

The E-konomista also emphasizes that, for those who work in the center of Lisbon and prefer a place in the surroundings, this can be the ideal place to live, especially because of the several beaches in Ericeira, something very favorable in the warmest times of the year.<\/p>\n

Also on this list, places like Torres Vedras, Sesimbra, Set\u00fabal and Caldas da Rainha appear as possible alternatives to the Lisbon bustle.<\/p>\n
