ZERO Association recently released its list of the 58 ZERO pollution beaches in Portugal, which this year has 5 more in total compared to 2021.<\/p>\n

This list includes two bathing areas in the municipality of Mafra, namely Foz do Lizandro \u2013 Mar and Coxos, a beach that debuts this year in the list of ZERO pollution beaches, replacing Praia do Sul, which lost its award this bathing season.<\/p>\n

5 more beaches at the national level compared to the 53 classified last year<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This year, beaches that maintain the reputation of ZERO pollution represent 9% of the total bathing areas in operation, an increase of 9 percentage points – 5 more beaches compared to the 53 classified last year, with 12 out and 17 in.<\/p>\n

The municipalities with the most beaches with this award are Albufeira and Aljezur (5 beaches), Tavira (4) and Alcoba\u00e7a, Faro, Porto Santo (Madeira), Sesimbra, Vila do Bispo and Vila do Porto (Santa Maria, Azores), with 3 beaches.<\/p>\n

A ZERO pollution beach is defined according to the data requested from the Portuguese Environment Agency by the ZERO Association, which identified the beaches that, over the last three bathing seasons (2019, 2020 and 2021), not only always had an \u201cEXCELLENT\u201d rating, as they showed zero or lower values \u200b\u200bthan the detection limit in all analyzes carried out on the two microbiological parameters controlled and foreseen in the legislation: Escherichia coli and intestinal Enterococci.<\/p>\n
