Photography:<\/strong> RR<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Last month the initiative \u201cFishing for a Sea without Trash\u201d was launched, a project coordinated by Docapesca with the aim of reducing marine litter and promoting environmental conditions improvement in Portuguese coastal areas.<\/p>\n Ericeira grabbed the opportunity and has recently become one of the fishing ports to embrace this initiative, in a partnership that involves several entities in addition to Docapesca (such as the Municipality of Mafra, the European University, Tratolixo and the Professional Fishermen Association of Ericeira), with a total of 12 vessels representing a universe of 40 fishermen.<\/p>\n so far, more than 4692 m\u00b3 of undifferentiated waste and more than 2185 m\u00b3 of packages have been collected<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u201cFishing for a Sea Without Trash\u201d is a project integrated into one of the voluntary commitments assumed by Portugal, within the scope of the 14-Oceans Sustainable Development goal, which promotes the selective collecting of waste generated on board and captured in fishing gear, providing the adequate infrastructure for its reception on land and subsequent assess.<\/p>\n So far, more than 4692 m\u00b3 of undifferentiated waste and more than 2185 m\u00b3 of packages have been collected, a result obtained by the joint effort of over 52 partner entities, 28 producer organizations, 796 vessels and 3197 fishermen.<\/p>\n
