Mafra National Palace was the Portuguese palace with the highest number of visitors during 2021.<\/p>\n

Despite having suffered a drop of 18.5% compared to 2020 values \u200b\u200b(when it had 129,995 visitors), Mafra’s icon registered 105,980 visitors, thus being at a significant distance from the second place, Pal\u00e1cio da Ajuda, with 55,704 visitors, which even signalled a percentage increase of 78%, compared to the 31,301 visitors in 2020.<\/p>\n

many iconic monuments, museums and palaces have seen declines due to lockdowns<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

According to data sent by DGPC (Directorate-General of Cultural Heritage) to the Lusa agency, the most visited cultural facility among the national museums and monuments remains Jer\u00f3nimos Monastery, in Lisbon, with 271,612 (compared to 234,007 in 2020, an increase of 16.1% ), followed by the Batalha Monastery, with 124,032 visitors (100,427 in 2020, an increase of 23.5%), and the Convent of Christ, in Tomar, with 116,451 visits (113,783 in 2020, an increase of 2.3%).<\/p>\n

National museums, monuments and palaces recorded a 3.9% increase in visitors in 2021, compared to 2020, with 1.34 million, and the National Museum of Archeology leads, for the first time, the most visited museums, according to the official statistics.<\/p>\n

The set of 25 facilities managed by the DGPC received a total of 1,346,250 visitors in 2021, 50,722 more entries compared to the 1,295,528 registered in 2020, when the Covid-19 pandemic heavily affected these cultural spaces, causing a 70% drop in entries.<\/p>\n

In the last two years, there have been periods of closure of all spaces in the context of combating the pandemic, namely from March 13 to May 17, in 2020, and from January 15 to April 4, in 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
