Lee

I found myself wondering about, what if the ocean suddenly disappeared? And I don’t
mean in an environmental way but in a human psychological way. What would be of many of us, many who find in that big blue shining cloak the serenity needed to face all the life adversities? How would we cope with life without the little salt crystals accumulated on top of our skin after a dip in the ocean?

How would we feel if, instead of the ocean, we found ourselves facing a huge arid
desert. Just some burnt yellow landscape with trash piles islands every now and then. We would certainly go mad if we were only left with the sound of our strident voices echoing in all the surfaces and couldn’t smell the fresh breath of the sea anymore.

the sea has an enormous role in our lives

Where would I go to erase all the negative thoughts accumulated over time? Where
would my mind wander to feel at peace? If it all disappears, what should my safe haven be?

The sea has an enormous role in our lives, simply because it is bigger than anything
else that we have the opportunity to touch, to savour and to feel some control over and, on top of all of these, is the prettiest, most magical and respectable thing you’ll ever see in a lifetime. We need the immensity of the ocean to make us feel so little by become so insignificant. This happens in an unconscious way, of course, because what we take from this experience, from all the time spent facing that big blue cloak unfolding into the horizon, is a feeling of pure joy. Facing the ocean, seems somehow, to inexplicably relieve us from a big portion of our most troubling problems. The ocean controls a big part of us without even realizing it.

What would happen to those who crave the end of the work day in order to be able to
drop some waves? Or to those who find in the big waves the fuel, the adrenaline, that keeps their rush going?

how many of us would still make it?

What if the line that divides the big blue degrade, the line that decides which one is
sea and which one is sky disappear forever? We would be standing facing the arid horizon no longer wondering what’s in there because it doesn’t matter anymore. When all the beauty is gone and we find ourselves obligated to stare at the disaster we, somehow, all created. How many would look away, not being able to stand the fact that it was us who destroyed the heaven we used to have occupying the same place that now accommodates this rundown landscape. A scenario that no longer calls for morning walks or meetings between friends.

If it all vanishes, how many of us do you think that would still make it?

If we found ourselves private of the feeling of the cold sand beneath our feet,
beneath our connection to the energy of mother nature, we would be forced do turn
ourselves to the lakes, to the calm waters where not only we have a vision of an infinite blue but also some green stains, here and there. But what if even these ones disappear, what if even these ones decide to turn their back at us? Not being there to drive us into their calm sounds while paddling or reading.

Seriously, how many of us do you think would still make it?

Diana Conde wonders about what would happen if the ocean suddenly disappeared.

[72

post-47016","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-blue_note

The Sea - AZUL-ERICEIRA MAG | O melhor da Ericeira

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"Article","@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/#article","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/"},"author":{"name":"Hugo Rocha","@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/#/schema/person/f2eb4cfc7039b4fa1a1f8f40ffe98b40"},"headline":"The Sea","datePublished":"2021-12-28T04:21:44+00:00","mainEntityOfPage":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/"},"wordCount":602,"publisher":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/#organization"},"image":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/#primaryimage"},"thumbnailUrl":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/turismo_portugal.jpg","articleSection":["Blue Note"],"inLanguage":"en-US"},{"@type":"WebPage","@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/","url":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/","name":"The Sea - AZUL-ERICEIRA MAG | O melhor da Ericeira","isPartOf":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/#website"},"primaryImageOfPage":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/#primaryimage"},"image":{"@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/#primaryimage"},"thumbnailUrl":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/turismo_portugal.jpg","datePublished":"2021-12-28T04:21:44+00:00","inLanguage":"en-US","potentialAction":[{"@type":"ReadAction","target":["https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/"]}]},{"@type":"ImageObject","inLanguage":"en-US","@id":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/en/the-sea/#primaryimage","url":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/turismo_portugal.jpg","contentUrl":"https://www.ericeiramag.pt/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/turismo_portugal.jpg","width":1050,"height":840,"caption":"Oceano Atlântico. - ph.
