The Royal Building of Mafra has recently received outstanding honors from the Italian travel magazine \u201cBell\u2019Europa\u201d, whose monthly editions specialize in travel, culture and history, with the aim of discovering or \u201crediscovering\u201d the \u2018old continent\u2019.<\/p>\n

This issue allows us to explore, on each page, the most hidden corners and the most romantic and charming places, the big cities and the small villages, taking us on an exclusive visit to the most extraordinary heritage of landscapes, traditions, art and nature in Europe. This is even considered one of the most prestigious magazines in Italy.<\/p>\n

the Royal Building represents the architectural and artistic models in Italian Baroque style<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The article that features the Royal Building of Mafra is entitled \u201cA Portuguese Versailles\u201d and highlights the perfect harmony of this Baroque work of art. Composed of the Royal Palace, Basilica, Convent, Cerco Garden and Tapada de Mafra, the Royal Building is one of the most admirable works carried out on the initiative of King John V. The beginning of construction of the central work dates from 1717.<\/p>\n

The entire structure was designed by the German Johann Friedrich Ludwig, of Italian school, and illustrates the power and reach of the Portuguese Empire. It represents architectural and artistic models in Italian Baroque style and the beauty of the Basilica that comprises it is inspired by the great churches of Rome, being compared to the Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican, which dates from 1506.<\/p>\n
