The celebrations in honor of S\u00e3o Sebasti\u00e3o and S\u00e3o Vicente (better known as \u201cFesta dos B\u00eabados\u201d) take place every year on the 20th and 22nd of January. Although 2020 was the year we all know, these popular celebrations \u201canticipated\u201d the arrival of the pandemic and were able to take place with the usual joy, as you can see in this video<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year, and although religious ceremonies are allowed (according to the rules of the General Directorate of Health) in the context of the recent renewal of the State of Emergency that once again imposed general lockdown on the entire country, things were quite different – there was only Mass in person, on Friday at 7 pm, in the Church of S\u00e3o Pedro, where the Images of S\u00e3o Sebasti\u00e3o and S\u00e3o Vicente were present.<\/p>\n

It is, therefore, a good time to remember remarkable moments of the last seven years of those that were, once upon a time, the biggest festivities in Ericeira and the surrounding area, also representing the kick-off for the Carnival in Ericeira.<\/p>\n

Between the Ermida de S\u00e3o Sebasti\u00e3o (where the mass usually takes place) and the stage of the festival, there used to be wine, music, parrameiros (a traditional treat), dancing and smiles on familiar faces, some of which have unfortunately disappeared – even during the initial lockdown, enacted in March 2020 .<\/p>\n

Let us recall, then, great memories and catch our breath so that these traditions that mark the identity of the village can return as soon as possible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
