They continue to Gibraltar and then England – this could be the caption of the photograph published here, which, however, leaves out much to be said about this crucial historical episode.<\/p>\n It was about 3 pm on October 5, 1910 (which would go down in history as the Day of the Implantation of the Republic), when the Portuguese Royal Family, coming from Mafra, where they stayed overnight, came by car in the village to embark, fleeing the revolution settled in Lisbon the day before.<\/p>\n The affluence in\u00a0 Ribas was immense. Everything was silent, but tears flowed from many eyes<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n The details of what happened that afternoon in Ericeira were reported by J\u00falio Ivo, Mayor of Mafra at the time of Sid\u00f3nio Pais, who in 1928 inquired the population of the village:<\/p>\n \u201c(\u2026) The cars stopped and the Royal Family dismounted, going from Rua do Norte to Rua de Baixo, through the narrow lane that connects the two streets, almost in front of Travessa da Estrela (\u2026) When entering Rua de Baixo, the Royal Family went in the following order: in front of El-Rei D.
