The Franco-German television channel Arte will broadcast a documentary about the Portugal of Paula Rego, where the life in Ericeira of the most renowned contemporary Portuguese artist will assume outstanding honours.
The program “Invitation au Voyage” shot, in October, an episode (directed by Miri Paturel) dedicated to the painter which should be broadcast in 2023, most likely between March and April next year.
In this 15-minute episode of the program that crosses travel with cultural matters, a trip back in time will be made, going back to Paula Rego’s childhood in Ericeira, where she lived for several years at Quinta Figueiroa Rego, in order to understand the role that this village played in her life and work until her death, which occurred on June 8, this year.
In the program, presented by Linda Lorin, her political commitment and the place that Women take in her work will also be underlined, over two sequences filmed in Peniche and Cascais – the documentary will also show Casa das Histórias Paula Rego, a Cascais museum dedicated to the Portuguese artist.

In this episode, Emília Ferreira (from the National Museum of Contemporary Art), Helena de Freitas (from the Gulbenkian Foundation) and Catarina Alfaro, from Casa das Historias, were interviewed.
The program “Invitation au Voyage” has been broadcast on the Arte channel between Monday and Friday, always at 6:10 pm, since March 2017. Each episode discovers or revisits places or artists that belong to our common heritage, be it cultural, artistic or physical.
It is not the first time that Portuguese personalities have been highlighted by “Invitation au Voyage”: the writers Eça de Queiroz or José Saramago are other examples of Portuguese figures portrayed in this program.
