In the definition of the Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services, “malhada” is a device made up of a rod, without any hook, at the end of which a bait is attached, either tied or with the aid of a small net purse.

You can also use a shrimp net as fishing aid.

In Ericeira the “malhada” is a tradition whose art and knowledge are passed from generation to generation, which fulfill it mainly in storm tides, when the full moon leaves enormous extensions of rock exposed during the low tide.
