EDP Billabong Pro Ericeira will return to Ribeira d’Ilhas between September 22 and 27 in 2020.
The World Surf League (WSL) has already introduced its circuit calendar, with a stage of the Championship Tour scheduled for Portugal (Meo Rip Curl Pro Portugal, between October 14 and 25 in Peniche) and four stages of the qualifying circuit.
The one scheduled for Ericeira (whose champion is Samuel pupo) is the only one in the Challenger Series category, a new level of competition created by WSL: these future Qualifying Series (QS) premium events will be made up only for championships worth 10,000 points.
In 2020, Portugal will receive one stage of the CT and four stages of the QS
The remaining Portuguese stages of the Qualyfing Series circuit are as follows:
- Pro Santa Cruz presented by Noah Surf House (QS 3,000) March 30 to April 4 at Praia da Física, Santa Cruz;
- Caparica Surf Fest Pro powered by Oakley (QS 3,000 Male and QS 1,000 Female) April 6 to 11 at Costa da Caparica;
- Azores Airlines Pro (QS 5,000) September 15 to 20 in São Miguel Island, Azores.
The 2020 tour will be divided between two types of events: the Challenger Series (which resembles the former “Prime” events) and the remaining stages, which range from 1,000 to 5,000 points.
